Planning Form

KIVA Fundraiser - 2017, Semester 2

BUSINESS CLUB

Supervisor Statement

Step 1 - planning

Business Club consists of ten year 11’s from both IB and HSC and four year 9’s. Every Tuesday, business club members would meet up and we would discuss and plan what we wanted to achieve each week, including who in KIVA we wanted to fundraise for. Through a google doc, we planned who would take up what roles, who was going to make/bring what items for the bake sale, estimated prices for each item, our goals and our plan for what we wanted to achieve each week. I also made a facebook group chat so that we could all easily communicate if there was anything important that someone had missed out on if they were away or if anyone needed to clarify any questions/queries.

REFLECTION 1

LO3 Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

So far, business club has been continuously planning and organising for a fundraiser to take place in term 2, week 4. We have decided that a bake sale would be the most appropriate in terms of selling items that are able to receive a profit that will become the funds for donating to KIVA.

LO4 Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

It has not been easy trying to maintain a balance between organising and preparing for the fundraiser as well as keeping up with other extra-circular activities as well as schoolwork. However, through the timed schedule that we have been keeping up to date, it has definitely helped in keeping us informed about what we should be doing, what we should have done and what we should be planning on doing next.

LO5 Demonstrate the skills and recognise the benefits of working collaboratively

From working collaboratively with my fellow business club peers, i have realised the importance of shared opinions, ideas and suggestions. These can really help in contributing to a larger idea and as many hands make light work, it was much easier and more efficient in having everyone contribute an idea or suggestion of what they thought was appropriate for the fundraiser.

LO6 Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

Through the fundraiser, we will be able to donate the funds to KIVA fundraiser which will go towards helping those in need of resources to better facilitate education for young children.

Step 2 - MAKING FOOD

I made caramel popcorn with tints of blue and pink to make it colourful and more appealing than regular caramel popcorn. I also made the cardboard cups that the popcorn would be served in. These cups were sold for $2.00 each.

Step 3 - fundraiser day

The fundraiser was held on the 16/05/17 at lunchtime and was a successful bake sale fundraiser that quickly drew the attention of many students and teachers alike. Overall, a larger awareness was created through the fundraiser to inform people about KIVA funds and the change that we can make by donating to these funds.

REFLECTION 2

LO3 Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

Our goal was to raise enough money in order to donate for a good cause. After our first bake sale, we successfully raised $468 with the commitment and teamwork that business club has put in.

The most challenging part was trying to organise everything for the bake sale. As this was our very first fundraiser, we were not quite experienced and had to ask advice from the year 12’s as they have had much more experience than we have had. I also found it quite challenging as there were details that i had sometimes missed out on which were quite important and only realised until later on in planning.

LO5 Demonstrate the skills and recognise the benefits of working collaboratively

From working with others, i have found that it is very important to consider opinions fairly and not judge based on first impressions. People who may not seem capable are able to surprise you and will take initiative when given a push or just a word of encouragement. From the teamwork skills and leadership skills that i have learnt through our first fundraiser in business club, i have been able to better understand how students in general will initially cope with what you ask them to do and through encouragement, they will

Through the fundraiser, we will be able to donate the funds to KIVA fundraiser which will go towards helping those in need of resources to better facilitate education for young children

We have raised $468 AUD and have decided to donate the entire donation to a selected KIVA borrower. We originally decided to donate to women in need of education but as there were no available borrowers who were placed under that category, we opted for another category which was health. We found a borrower who needed a loan to purchase a water filtration system to provide clean drinking water for his students, located in Kasese, Uganda.

Step 4 - kiva donation
